The Balmar MC-614 Max Charge regulator is the latest addition to Balmar’s range of multi-stage, smart ‘MaxCharge’ voltage regulators.
Intended to offer precise voltage control for high output 12v alternators such as those from Balmar’s own range as well as other externally regulated P-type designs, Balmar’s MC-614 offers a range of user-selected programs for a variety of battery types including:
- Spiral wound – such as Optimas
- Standard flooded.
- Deep-cycle flooded.
Additionally, the MC-614 has the added advantage of a universal default option, which is safe for use with the vast majority of common battery types used in marine applications, as well as a program exclusively designed for vessels that use voltage-sensitive halogen equipment. The MC-614 is pre-programmed for use with lithium ion batteries, and can also be configured to work with carbon foam batteries.
As well as the basic user-selectable pre-set programming options, the MC-614 also offers a wide range of advanced programming modes, enabling the regulator to be used in a wide variety of different environments.
The additional feature of “small engine” mode ensures that smaller vessels will not lose propulsion when they need it most, as the MC-614 enables the user to manually reduce the regulator field output to around half.
When connected to the appropriate Balmar alternator and battery temperature sensors, the MC-614 is able to monitor and respond intuitively to changes in ambient temperature conditions as well. This allows the MC-614 to reduce or terminate the charging voltage automatically if the alternator or batteries reach critical overheating temperatures.
