The Balmar XT-SF Series brings together the latest innovations in alternator design to deliver incredible charging power in a compact, marine-friendly package. Designed to fit engines requiring a traditional single-foot mount, the XT-SF series is the premier choice for cruisers looking to maximize their energy production.
Product Description
- Exceptional Power in a Traditional Frame: The Balmar XT-SF (Single Foot) Series features a state-of-the-art braided stator wire design. This advanced technology allows the alternator to generate significantly more power in a smaller footprint compared to traditional S-wound designs. It is specifically engineered to produce superior charging current at low engine RPMs, ensuring that your battery banks are being replenished the moment you start your engine, whether you are maneuvering in harbor or idling at anchor.
- Engineered for Efficiency and Cool Running: High-output alternators generate heat, which can lead to efficiency loss. The XT-SF Series is built to operate 5°C to 10°C cooler than previous models. This improved thermal efficiency ensures consistent, high-amperage performance even in restricted engine rooms and significantly extends the lifespan of the internal components.
- SmartReady® Technology: For added peace of mind, every XT-SF alternator comes equipped with Balmar’s SmartReady® internal regulator. This provides a reliable 14.1V backup charging source. Should your external regulator ever develop a fault, the system provides a built-in safety net to keep your batteries charging and your critical navigation systems powered.
Key Features
- High Output at Idle: Delivers industry-leading charging power at low engine speeds (up to 128A for the 170A model and 186A for the 250A model at idle).
Universal Single-Foot Mount: Designed for the 1″ or 2″ single-foot (Motorola/Delco style) mounting common on many Volvo Penta, Perkins, Westerbeke, Lehman, and older Universal engines.
Braided Wire Stator: Maximizes copper density and electromagnetic efficiency.
External Regulation Recommended: Designed to work seamlessly with Balmar MC-618 (12V) or MC-624 (24V) digital regulators for multi-stage “smart” charging and battery longevity.
Technical Specifications
- Voltage: 12V or 24V options
- Amperage Options: 90A, 170A, or 250A
- Mounting: 1″ or 2″ Single Foot (Spindle Mount)
- Internal 14.1V Backup Regulator
- Case Ground
- Pulley Requirements: Due to high torque loads, these alternators must be used with a Dual V or Multi-Groove Serpentine belt.
Note for Installation:
- Because of the significant mechanical load required to produce high amperage, XT alternators should preferably be used with high-quality serpentine belt conversion kits (such as the Balmar AltMount® series).
- A Tachometer Signal Stabilizer (Part No. 15-TSS) may be required if your current tachometer is not adjustable.
