A few customers with Volvo engines have experienced compatibility issues with the D+ circuit causing the alarm buzzer to sound, and the ignition light wont go out.
Volvo engines often require 2-3 amps of current to operate correctly. To address this, we suggest using an automotive style relay such as TYCO VF4-45F1 and wiring it according to the diagram below. Any 12VDC coil relay that draws less than 500ma will suffice.
For Balmar Alternators not equipped with a D+ circuit, you can make use of a 6 volt automotive style relay – like the Tyco VF4-15D11-C06 or an OMRON LY2 relay. To set up the relay, follow the steps illustrated in the schematic below. The OMRON LY2 coil will operate when connected to the A/C terminal of your alternator.
